to the Kalterer See | W6
Through the forest to the lake & back by bus
From the Traminerhof you hike up the Bachgasse to the fairground and then along the Höllentalbach to the Winzerhof and then follow the markings “Kalterer See/Natur-Erlebnisweg”. An undulating hiking trail with Mediterranean flora leads you to the wine road in about 1.5 h. There you cross and follow the new foot/cycle path to the little church St. Josef am See. From there, behind the little church, the circular path leads you in a right direction through the vineyards to the Kalterer See.
If you want, you can also go around the lake.
The tour is clockwise, i.e. from the little church St. Josef am See you walk in the direction of Camping Gretl am See, past the Hotel Seegarten, the Lido and the Restaurant Geier north of the lido parking lots. The footpath goes past behind the Restaurant Geier and you turn right into the path which brings you to the road at Klughammer under the Leuchtenburg mountain ridge.
Here further to the south. After a few bends, a dead straight road turns right (no-driving sign), which goes through the orchards towards the wine road. But you follow the wooden path through the biotope of the Kalterer See. Once you reach the main road, you can cross it and walk back to Tramin or you can take the bus at the bus stop opposite the St. Josef am See campground.
